Aquarium Maintenance
Filter Maintenance:The filter is the most important part of the aquarium. The waste produced by the aquatic organisms needs to be safely removed to prevent toxins building to dangerous levels. Every month the filter needs to be serviced to make sure it is running efficiently and effectively. There are many forms of filters for aquariums which we are familiar with, these include; internal filters, external filters, trickle filters, etc. Glass cleaning and algae removal:Any aquatic environment can develop algae, it grows for a number of reasons, mainly due to the lighting and certain waste products which build up over a period of time. Maintenance basically removes this algae and prevents the aquarium looking untidy. Algae is not usually harmful as it is a basic, simple plant. Gravel Cleaning And Water Changing:A water change is a vital part of the maintenance. It helps dilute the toxins that build over a period of time. We recommend a 25% change per maintenance. We incorporate a gravel clean at the same time as it prevents the gravel stagnating and means you don’t need to completely strip the aquarium down. We use R.O water for marine aquariums and more specialised freshwater aquariums. General Parts Servicing:Periodically certain parts of the aquarium needs to be replaced. Filter components i.e sponges and carbon need to be renewed from time to time. We can supply all these parts from most of the manufacturers. |
